FIFA World Cup 2026 Times Square Events: New York City’s World Cup Hub
New York City is the global center of media and culture. In July 2026, it becomes the hub of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Times Square Events Final experience. FIFA has planned fan events and activations in Times Square around the Final weekend on July 18 and 19. Here is what to expect.
TIMES SQUARE AS THE WORLD CUP FINAL STAGE
Times Square is one of the most recognizable locations in the world. Over 330,000 people pass through it daily under normal circumstances. During the World Cup Final weekend, FIFA plans to transform parts of the area into an outdoor viewing and fan experience zone.
Large outdoor screens will show the Final live. Fan activations, merchandise zones and food and beverage areas will surround the screens. FIFA and local New York City authorities are coordinating to close relevant streets and manage crowd flow for the event.
WHEN THE EVENTS BEGIN
July 18: Third-Place Match (Miami) and the start of Times Square fan events
The day before the Final, FIFA kicks off outdoor activities in Times Square. This includes the buildup viewing experience and pre-Final entertainment.
July 19: World Cup Final day
The Final kicks off at 3:00 PM ET. Times Square viewing parties begin several hours before kickoff. After the Final whistle and trophy ceremony, celebrations continue into the evening.
THE HALFTIME SHOW CONNECTION
The Final at MetLife Stadium will feature the first-ever live halftime show at a World Cup. Chris Martin of Coldplay serves as creative partner for the production. The halftime show at MetLife Stadium will be broadcast live and on large screens in Times Square simultaneously.
For fans without tickets to the Final at MetLife Stadium, watching the halftime show on the Times Square screens while surrounded by tens of thousands of fellow fans in the heart of New York City is an extraordinary alternative experience.
HOW FAR IS METLIFE STADIUM FROM TIMES SQUARE
MetLife Stadium is in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It is approximately 8 miles west of Midtown Manhattan. Travel options include:
NJ Transit bus and rail connections
Car (traffic will be extreme on Final day)
Pre-arranged shuttles
Fans with Final tickets should plan to leave Manhattan by early afternoon on July 19. The journey typically takes 30 to 45 minutes under normal conditions but will be significantly longer given the enormous crowd.
ACCOMMODATION IN NEW YORK FOR FINAL WEEKEND
Hotels in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Hoboken and Jersey City are all within reasonable distance of both Times Square and MetLife Stadium. July is already peak tourist season in New York. Booking accommodation for July 18 and 19 as early as possible is essential. Prices will be significantly above normal rates given the combination of summer tourism and World Cup demand.
THE CITY'S ATMOSPHERE
New York City has one of the most diverse populations in the world. The Final weekend will see fans from every participating nation filling hotels, restaurants and viewing venues across the five boroughs. The energy of a World Cup Final week in the most international city on the planet will be something genuinely unique.
